Information Update for Community

It was with great excitement and pride that ACCIONA Energy Waubra Wind Farm operations and maintenance employees moved into the new Maintenance Facility at 275 Harrisons Road, Waubra.

The design of the purpose built facility is based on the principles of sustainability and includes reclaimed timber decking, solar powered hot water, automated climate control mechanisms to minimise energy use and of course, the Maintenance Facility will be 100% powered by wind energy.

A barbeque was held at the facility as a thank you to the local Waubra community for their patience and support during the construction of the Maintenance Facility. Locals also had the opportunity to take a look inside and chat with staff including the Facilities Manager, Glenn Wright. “The Maintenance Facility is a show piece for ACCIONA Energy and the maintenance team and I are looking forward to operating from the Facility for many years to come” he said. A celebratory lunch was also held for those involved in the design and construction of the Maintenance Facility.

The Maintenance Facility (below) will house twenty six fulltime ACCIONA Energy employees as well as providing a base for contractors and visiting employees from the Melbourne office.

Information Update for Community

As part of its community consultation program, Acciona Energy held a Community Information Day for the wider Waubra community on Saturday 4 August at the Waubra Recreation Reserve. Community members were invited to drop in to get the latest information on civil construction works, the detailed design of the wind farm and the community relations program.

Approximately 90 local people attended to receive information and meet ACCIONA Energy employees.

Overall community members were supportive of the final design of the Waubra Wind Farm. Most locals were particularly interested in the maintenance facility, employment at the wind farm, sponsorship opportunities and the electrical design.

People were impressed by the sustainability features of the Maintenance Facility and its artistic design. People were particularly positive about the final electrical design (cables between turbines going underground) and the proposed landscaping around substations. Initial concerns of a few community members about the aviation safety lights were allayed by giving further information on the lighting plan, the type of lights selected and the visibility of the lighting at night. The local community was very pleased about receiving the update regarding activities around the Waubra Wind Farm and having the opportunity to review and discuss the details of the project design.

The purpose of the survey is to gauge community perceptions about ACCIONA Energy and the Waubra Wind Farm to help us develop a greater level of sustainable collaboration and engagement with the Waubra community.  The survey team may ask questions about perceptions of the Wind Farm, the Company, the Waubra North proposal and thoughts about climate change, green technology and in particular wind energy. The survey is confidential and will be undertaken by independent consultants.
