Acciona Energy held a small groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of building the Waubra Wind Farm in Victoria, the largest of the 154 wind farms that the company has installed across the world. The civil works will be completed by Acciona Energy in conjunction with Leighton Contractors and are expected to take approximately one year to complete. The construction of access tracks and turbine foundations started in November 2006.

The wind farm will produce 192 MW from 128 x 1.5 MW wind turbines manufactured with Acciona Windpower technology. The Waubra Wind Farm will be the second one to be built by the company in Australia, after Cathedral Rocks (66 MW), in South Australia. The wind farm will produce enough electricity to cover the annual demand of 143,000 Australian homes – more than enough to power the City of Ballarat.
